Family Worship

“Let the message of Christ dwell among you richly as you teach and admonish one another with all wisdom through psalms, hymns, and songs from the Spirit, singing to God with gratitude in your hearts.”
Colossians 3:16

Whilst we are unable to meet together in person due to COVID-19, there have been a wealth of resources and ideas for families filling our inboxes and social media platforms. We’ve collated what we feel are some of the best of them, including those that many of us have benefitted from in the past enabling us to do Colossians 3:16 with our kids. Hooray!

Sundays still remain a priority for families to gather under His word as the whole church meets together online. But what about the rest of the week?

3 resources to help you pray, listen and speak God’s truth in your families:

Listening to God’s truth

Listening to a podcast in a moment of calm is a great way to let the word dwell in us richly. Stick it on in the kitchen while the kids are waiting for pudding, after their bath or during a colouring sesh.

Faith in Kids is a lighthearted blend of fun facts, bible reading, reflection, questions to talk about together and a comedy sketch.

God’s Big Story by The Village Church is a show teaching the bible, singing the bible and what Jesus means to us, with special guests.

Awesome Cutlery are doing live streams which include songs, sketches, general tomfoolery and a short bible study. Subscribe to their YouTube channel and like their Facebook page for updates.

Speaking God’s truth

Now is a great time to memorise scripture. The benefits are huge, and kids are like sponges! You could use a memory verse calendar like the one here or choose 1 or 2 verses to stick around the house. Let them find it in the bible, talk to them about what it means and model it to them in the week.

John Piper talks about how to encourage your kids to love the word of God:

Here are two verses that were learnt last week whilst playing football, washing hair and setting the table!
